FRIDAY, JUNE 18 “DRIVE YOUR VW TO WORK DAY”
This is a world-wide annual event. Plan to drive your VW to work on Fri, June 18.
We are working on a location to meet after work. More details to follow.
Thanks and hope to see you at an event! – Deb
And since the last year I was introduced to the event by joining the GAVWC in Melbourne, Fl on this day and becoming apart of a great group of Vw’ enthusiast. I thought I might research some history on this celebration. so here it is….
“Drive Your VW To Work Day”
Turning the Work Commute into a VW Salute
EFFINGHAM, IL – On Friday, June 19th, Mid America Motorworks will celebrate the VW by promoting and participating in Drive Your VW to Work Day. This annual event – in its 14th year – is a favorite amongst VW enthusiasts around the world. All those who are able to do so, are encouraged to drive their Volkswagens to work on this day.
This day of celebration, initially dubbed the “World Wide Day of the VW Beetle,” is the result of Alexander Gromow. As a Volkswagen enthusiast, he wished to orchestrate a special tribute for this special vehicle. In 1995, he garnered enough support through local VW clubs in his country of Brazil and abroad to introduce June 22nd, as the official “World Wide Day of the VW Beetle.”
The date of June 22nd was chosen in part for its historical significance to the Beetle. This date, commemorates the day in 1934 when the developmental contract for the VW Beetle was signed.
From this original celebration, Drive Your VW to Work Day has evolved. Through the combined efforts of VW clubs and enthusiasts alike, this day has grown to become a popular event for many owners of this much-admired vehicle. The event not only now pays tribute to the Beetle, but the entirety of the Volkswagen line as well. All models of VW are urged to be driven on this day.

HAPPY SPRING – Nice weather is finally here!!
Now is your chance to clean up your VW and drive to Rockledge Gardens on April 17. We’re planning a fun afternoon with our cars as well as the opportunity to walk around the Gardens and get ideas for cleaning up our yards from any winter damage.
DETAILS:
***You could also have the opportunity to participate in the Saturday Seminar that Rockledge Gardens offer every Saturday morning 10:00-11:00. On our VW Day, an Brevard County agricultural agent will host the seminar “9 Principles of Florida-Friendly landscaping”. If you wish to participate in this seminar, please arrive at 10 and then stay for the VW meeting at noon. ***
You can read more about the seminars and what is available at the Gardens, by looking at their website: http://www.rockledgegardens.com/
(they are a dog-friendly business as long as your pet is on a leash).
Should be a great afternoon with lots of various activities both inside and outside. They have a butterfly screen room area that is great for kids (and adults too). It is also a great way to thank the owners of Rockledge Gardens, Theresa and Kevin Riley, for their many years of support of our club. They have generously made donations and brought their “LADY BUG” to our Volkstoberfest Car Shows.
Please RSVP by sending an email to hartegans@cs.com or leaving a message at 757-0421. This helps to give us an idea as to how many cars we can expect.
Please remember to bring an appetizer to share and your own water or soft drinks (no alcohol allowed).

JANUARY 21
CRAB RACES
Mr. Tony’s Pizza, Palm Bay
7:00 pm
Each participant picks a hermit crab from an aquarium, then gives the creature a name. Each shell is individually numbered for identification purposes. On a typical night, these crabs compete in 12 to 14 heat races. Here’s how each race unfolds: The crustaceans loiter beneath an upside-down plastic salad bowl at the center of a 6-foot racing ring. Then the bowl is lifted, and crabs scatter in all directions. The first to cross the yellow ring wins and advances to the nightly championship race.

This year’s show was a HUGE SUCCESS! We had a grand total of 136 car entries, our First Annual “Stuff-A-Bug” was a true hit; with our winning team Team#3, stuffing an amazing 20 people into the bug!!! We’d also like to thank our Engine Blow Winner, Eric Spritzer. Eric graciously donated his Engine Blow winnings to Hospice of Health First. An additional ‘Thank You’ to everyone that participated in entering their cars and to the vendors that displayed their wares. Our sincerest appreciation to all our volunteers, club members, friends and family. Everyone worked hard, even in the unseasonably hot and humid weather.
Your support helped make our show possible

We participated in our first “Drive Your VW To Work Day”. The gathering after work at Mister Tony’s was a fun time; seeing friends that we hadn’t seen for awhile and also meeting several new faces. Now that we are aware of this annual world-wide event, we hope to have it grow every year.
We had a blast at Mr Tony’s with all the other cars and bikes in attendance…
